What I think about Blogs

I think that Blogs are a great way of using technology outside of the classroom. I have to admit, I didn't know much about Blogs until this class. I feel like with this class it has opened my eyes to think outside of the box. I think that Blogs could be like journals to each kid in the classroom. It would help me as a teacher to see what information each child is grasping during my class. It would also help me to know which ones need extra help. I think this is something I will take with me when I become a teacher!

So far in this class, I feel like I know so much more about computers and some technology that will help me in my future classroom. I also think that with all the stuff I have learned so far, it will help me to be able to make learning more fun for the children in my class!

This is a website I found that talks about ten things that everyone needs to know. I found it very useful for me. My favorite part was the how to be creative. To me, I dont think I am very creative but this changed my way of thinking.

Technology sometimes makes me mad

Today, I found out an issue I have with technology. This morning when I woke up, I went to submit some homework for my Classroom assessment class. Well when I went to submit my work, it wouldn't open my files so I could submit my work. Now, I am afraid my work is going to be late. With technology, we can't always depend on it. I found this out the hard way!

Be Careful

As teachers, we need to be careful to the technology we let our students use. Over the years, the internet has grown. The internet can be a dangerous place for our children. I know that in the school I grew up in, there was a computer lab. In this computer lab, we was allowed to surf the net and go to any website that we wanted to that wasn't blocked. Today, the teachers still let their children go to the computer lab and even use the computer in the classrooms. I think that as teachers, we need to be sure we know what websites our children are checking out in the classrooms. There are too many sites that our children do not need to get on. It is impossable for all of them to be blocked. As a teacher, I think that we sould find the websites first and have a list for the children to choose from when they are allowed to have computer time. I believe this would help with alot of the issues.

Be Flexible

Another issue I have with technology is that it is not always reliable. There might be one day in the classroom the teacher has this great lesson all planned out on his or her computer but the next thing you know, the lesson presentation isn't working. This is where the teacher needs to be flexible and have another way prepared to work on the lesson. Also, I have a friend who had a presentation due in an ELED class. She had this great lesson all planned out. When she went to use the teachers computer to pull it up, she couldn't see what she was doing and deleted her work. The teacher understood what happened and gave her two extra days to redo her work. This is a great example of being flexible.

Issues With Technology In Classrooms

I feel that with technology, there are many problems that could occur. One problem would be that there might be some children in the class that don't have the technology available to them. For example, if a teacher gives the children an assignment for a powerpoint presentation. Some children might not have the technology to do the assignment and might be too embarrassed to come to the teacher and tell her that they dont have the technology available for them to use. I feel like when teachers gives an assignment to the students, they should make enought time in class for the students that dont have the technology so that way they could get the assignment done in the class.

OOPS!

Okay so yesterday my good friend Ashley Taylor went and met with Dr. Alexander. Dr. Alexander told her that we are suppose to post something on our blog twice a week since the beginning of the semester. I did not know this. When I went and looked at the rubric, i thought that we only had to have those seven postings and this is all. So now I am behind and have to post something everyday until March 5th. I just hope I get caught up and fast!

What I learned about technology

I leaned that technology is changing and growing each day. As teachers we need to know as much as possible about all the technology that is out there to help better our classrooms.

KWL Chart

I think that the KWL chart is a good assessment that teachers can use on the first day of class. It helps the teacher know what each student knows and what they want to know. It also helps teachers to know how much knowledge was gained by the end of the year. I found that when I did a KWL chart, I didn't know much about the class but at the end of the class my What I Learned section was full. This is what we as teachers want to see.

Website

I thought this assignment was different then all the others. It made me think outside of the box. What I mean by this is, it allowed me to view a totally different way to communicate with parents. This goes along with the book when it talks about how technology has grown over the years. I think that the website is a good and fun way for the parents to get to know the teacher better. The website would be very helpful for when a child is absent because it has the weeks curriculum posted on it. I wish they had things like this when I was in school

PortaPortal

I thought that the Portaportal was a fun way to get the students interested in learning. On my Portaportal, I included a lot of games. Games is a way to make students to want to learn but they also have fun. It really showed me how to incorporate technology in the classroom.
